The Happiest Food on Earth

It's nearly time for our 2012 Annual Family Trip to Disney World, so it goes without saying that it is long overdue that I share a few highlights of last years visit. We celebrated our 9 year anniversary there last year when the twins were just 3 months old.

Based on the circumstances we knew we wouldn't be riding many rides and that we'd need an excuse to escape the heat and humidity frequently. We also know that Disney World is a mecca of unique gastronomy and world cuisines so we planned the majority of our entertainment around restaurants.

For this visit we purchased a Disney Meal Plan. I cannot emphasis enough how much we loved this dining option, which we estimate saved us up to 40% on our food for the week that we spent visiting the parks. Aside from the convenient snacks and quick service meals, we indulged in eating at some of the best restaurants Disney World has to offer!

Narcoossee's
Grand Floridian Resort and Spa

For our Anniversary Dinner we took the monorail to the luxurious Grand Floridian and dined at Narcoossee's.

This fine establishment has a dress code and required two of our dinner plan options to cover the cost. It was well worth it. We feasted on crab cakes, lobster tails and filet mignon as we watched the fireworks over Disney's Magic Kingdom and the Electric Light Water Parade from the restaurant balcony. The food was impeccable and the ambiance was comforting, refined and elegant.

Boma
Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge

Our favorite buffet was Boma at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. This is not an ordinary buffet. It is authentic and exciting with foods from all over the Continent of Africa. This buffet offers a wide selection of delicious vegetarian, fish and meat dishes served in an open kitchen with a wood-fire rotisserie grill.

Finally, in Epcot, we met Ratatouille and enjoyed dinner at Les Chefs de France in the
France Pavilion.

Unfortunately, this was the only meal I took pictures of, though I had the intent of documenting all of our meals

I love Epcot; in fact, Epcot and Disney's Animal Kingdom are my favorite parks at Disney World. I love how immersive they each are, dedicated entirely to the guest experience and seclusion of the outside world. You encounter something new to attract and invite your senses with a unique experience along every step in Epcot. The park is vast, beautiful and overwhelming.

In 2010 we visited and dined in the the Germany Pavilion at the Biergarten where we were greeted by German transplants with thick accents. Just like there, at Les Chefs de France we were embraced by young Frenchmen who I could hardly understand despite studying French in college for 3 years, watching French films, and dreaming of visiting there someday.

I enjoyed the Crepes Florentine (a large crepe filled with chicken, spinach, mushrooms and bechamel sauce).

Gabriel dined on Plat de cote de boeuf au cabernet avec pates (Beef short ribs braised in Cabernet with pasta, pearl onions and mushrooms).

One of the advantages of the Disney Meal Plan is that each pre-paid meal includes a beverage, a main dish and a dessert.

We each chose one of the Chef's signature dessert specialties,
Crème brûlée and chocolate profiteroles.

We were also treated at every restaurant to a special anniversary treat. Be sure to tell them when you book your reservations (they'll ask), or they'll see your special Anniversary pins when they seat you. It made the trip that much more special!

I was not reimbursed for this review, I just love Disney.
